The history of domains is a fascinating subject that illustrates how the internet and technology have evolved over the years. From the early days of the World Wide Web in the 1990s, when the concept of domains was still new, to the present day, with a multitude of domain endings and management systems, there's much to cover. The article provides a brief overview of the development of internet domains, starting from the TCP/IP protocol, through the first domain registries, all the way to the implementation of ICANN policies managing domain endings. Although there was no formal system initially, the introduction of the Domain Name System (DNS) allowed for better management of addresses. These innovations were crucial for the development of the global network we engage with today. It's important to consider how such developments influence the modern internet, where domains serve not just as addresses, but also as essential components of companies' marketing strategies.
